the political landscape in Ivory Coast is heating up as the 2025 presidential race takes shape. On Tuesday, the Cercle des Réflexions Engagées pour la République (EPR), a prominent civic and political advocacy group, publicly endorsed President Alassane Ouattara’s decision to run for a new term in office.
In an official statement signed by its president, Soloman Abraham Sanogo, the EPR expressed its “indéfectible et sans réserve” — unwavering and unconditional — support for the incumbent head of state. The group emphasized its commitment to the vision and leadership of President Ouattara, whom it described as a pillar of national unity and development.
“The Cercle de Réflexion Engagés Pour la République (EPR) has followed with great attention the solemn address to the Nation by President Alassane Ouattara on Tuesday, 29 July 2025, in which he announced his candidacy for the upcoming presidential election scheduled for 25 October, under the banner of the Rassemblement des Houphouëtistes pour la Démocratie et la Paix (RHDP),” read the declaration.
The EPR’s endorsement adds significant momentum to President Ouattara’s campaign, as the country braces for what is expected to be a fiercely contested election.
Ouattara’s announcement, delivered during a nationally televised address, sparked widespread reactions across political and civil society spheres, reigniting debate around his long-standing leadership and the direction of the RHDP ruling coalition.
President Ouattara, who has served as head of state since 2011, remains a polarizing yet influential figure in Ivorian politics.
While his supporters applaud his economic achievements and regional diplomacy, critics argue that a new generation of leadership is needed.
As the October elections draw closer, endorsements such as that of the EPR are likely to shape the narrative and alliances that will define the country’s political future.
