As part of the nationwide initiative “The patriotic hour to green Faso,” the commune of Zambo marked a significant step forward in environmental preservation by planting 570 trees on the historic site of the Djikologo cave.
The tree-planting session, held on Saturday and presided over by the President of the Special Delegation (PDS) of Zambo, Tasséré Badini, drew a large crowd of villagers, development associations, and government representatives.
The event signaled strong local support for the presidential campaign aimed at restoring Burkina Faso’s environmental heritage through civic action.
PDS Tasséré Badini inaugurated the session by planting the first shea tree, setting the tone for the reforestation effort, which included baobab, nilotica, and additional shea trees.
“The action taken this morning is patriotic,” said Badini. “This tree planting will further green the tourist site and make it more attractive.”
The initiative received technical support from water and forestry officials, with assistance from the Zambo forest services, Djikologo cantonment, and the Dissin gendarmerie.
Their collective efforts were acknowledged and appreciated by the local leadership.
Commanders and heads of forestry and departmental services in Zambo emphasized the significance of reinforcing the region’s vegetation cover.
They reiterated the importance of maintaining and protecting the newly planted trees to ensure long-term ecological sustainability.
Local community leaders, including the head of the citizen watch and the representative of the chief of Djikologo, expressed gratitude and urged continued community engagement.
“We must remain committed and support the development initiatives of the President of Faso,” they declared.
Following the planting ceremony, participants were given a guided tour of the Djikologo cave, reinforcing the site’s cultural and ecological importance.
The event served not only as a conservation milestone but also as a celebration of civic unity in the face of environmental challenges.
