Guinea to present draft constitution to president Doumbouya on june 28

Guinea’s National Transitional Council (CNT) has announced that it will officially hand over the draft of the new national constitution to transitional president General Mamadi Doumbouya on Friday, June 28, 2025.
The handover ceremony is set to take place at the esplanade of the People’s Palace, a symbolic epicenter of Guinea’s political life.
This announcement, made on Monday, June 23, marks a pivotal moment in the country’s transition back to constitutional order.
The draft constitution is the product of several months of inclusive consultations, legal analyses, and intensive deliberations among stakeholders, experts, and political actors convened under the CNT.
“This is a foundational step in reestablishing democratic norms in Guinea,” a CNT representative declared, underscoring the significance of the handover as part of the roadmap toward civilian rule.
The council has framed the new draft as the legal bedrock for a modern and democratic Guinea, one designed to reflect the collective aspirations of the Guinean people following years of political instability and governance uncertainty.
The constitutional project is widely seen as a precursor to broader institutional reforms.
Once received by President Doumbouya, the draft is expected to be reviewed ahead of a nationwide constitutional referendum, which has been scheduled for September 21, 2025.
The transition authorities emphasize that the drafting process was characterized by broad-based participation, drawing on voices from all sectors of Guinean society.
Observers view this step as critical in legitimizing the transitional government’s mandate and paving the way for democratic elections under a newly defined legal framework.
As the June 28 presentation approaches, political analysts and citizens alike are closely watching how the draft’s contents will align with calls for inclusivity, justice, and long-term stability in the West African nation.
