In a ceremony filled with both solemnity and celebration, the renowned “Dirou Bande” Orchestra of Kindia was equipped with a full set of modern musical instruments on Wednesday, July 30, 2025.
This milestone event is part of a national initiative aimed at revitalizing prefectural orchestras across Guinea, signaling a cultural renaissance in the region.
The event took place at the prefect’s residence in Kindia, attended by a broad spectrum of local dignitaries, including governorate officials, urban municipality representatives, and prominent figures from the cultural sector.
For decades, the “Dirou Bande” Orchestra — long considered the pride of the citrus city — had lain dormant, deprived of the resources and equipment needed to sustain its artistic activities.
The intervention by the Guinean authorities, led by Transitional President Mamadi Doumbouya, is widely viewed as a powerful statement in support of restoring the nation’s cultural legacy.
Mamaïssata Camara, Prefectural Director of Culture, expressed the significance of the occasion: “This event marks the resurrection of our emblematic musical groups, abandoned for more than 35 years. It is a historic step that breathes new life into our cultural heritage.”
Noël Lamah, Deputy Director General of the Fonds d’Aide à la Culture (FODAC), reinforced this message, noting, “The reorganization advocated by the Head of State also affects the arts and culture. This initiative is concrete proof of this. We await the resumption of cultural activities by this legendary Kindia orchestra.”
Prefectural authorities pledged to oversee the careful management of the newly provided instruments, aiming to preserve and promote the lasting influence of Kanianese culture.
With this renewed artistic momentum, hopes are high that the “Dirou Bande” Orchestra will soon reclaim its place on major national and international stages, heralding a fresh era for Guinea’s musical heritage.
