In the sub-prefecture of Sangarédi, Boké, the Compagnie des Bauxites de Guinée (CBG) officially handed over a newly constructed modern market to local authorities on Tuesday, 2 September 2025.
The initiative forms part of the company’s corporate social responsibility policy aimed at improving living conditions for nearby communities.
The handover ceremony brought together administrative and communal authorities, representatives of CBG, and numerous beneficiaries.
The event was marked by speeches of gratitude and pledges of responsible use of the new facility.
Colonel Abdoulaye Barry, president of the special delegation of Sangarédi, expressed his appreciation, saying:
“The commune is delighted to receive this space which will help to improve the commercial environment and support our small traders.
We thank all the authorities present here and commit to making good use of it.”
Alseny Conté, CBG’s group mine director, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to meeting the needs of the local population:
“This YENGUEMA market is a response to the demands expressed by the people of Sangarédi. Through this initiative, CBG reiterates its determination to support local development. We are convinced that this market will stimulate economic activity and strengthen social cohesion.”
The prefect of Boké, Colonel Alseny Camara, welcomed the contribution:
“On behalf of the State, I thank CBG for this civic initiative. This market fills a gap and will ease the daily lives of the people. It is a place of life, solidarity and economic vitality. Women of Sangarédi, this market is now your workplace and collective asset.”
CBG’s Director General, Maître Karifa Condé, emphasised the importance of peaceful coexistence between the company and the communities:
“CBG is the oldest mining company still operating in Guinea. Its success lies in peaceful coexistence with the people.
What we have built may seem modest, but it is in peace that we can achieve more. I promise this market will be further improved in the coming months.
To the women of Sangarédi, the driving force of the economy, this gem is dedicated to you: use it well, and you will be its first beneficiaries.”
Representing the traders, Doussouba Camara, president of the YENGUEMA market women’s association, expressed her gratitude:
“We thank CBG and the local authorities for this market, which improves our working conditions. From now on, we will work in a decent, safe and organised space.”
The event concluded with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, presentation of certificates of appreciation, and prayers for the project’s sustainability.
