Four suspected land guards allegedly linked to Trasaco Company have been arrested by the Greater Accra Regional Police Command following the reported illegal demolition of a resident’s home in Pantang.
The arrests were carried out under the supervision of DCOP Duuti Tuaruka and Adentan District Commander Chief Superintendent Lamptey Frederick Senanu.
The incident follows a landmark Supreme Court ruling in the case of Jeleel Company Ghana Limited versus Trasaco, in which the court unanimously ruled 5-0 against Trasaco, nullifying all legal claims by the company.
Despite this ruling, Trasaco is accused of encroaching on the land of resident Philip Okpoti Nai as part of its Akwaba Project expansion.
Local reports allege that the company demolished residential properties without obtaining a court order, sparking outrage among community members. Residents, angered by the destruction, retaliated by setting fire to four Trasaco-owned excavators used in the operation.
Police quickly intervened to restore order and launched a full investigation. The suspects were arraigned before the Adentan Circuit Court on 16 July, where they were remanded in custody by Her Ladyship Angela Attachie pending further inquiries. The court also instructed Trasaco to submit a formal written statement before the next hearing.
Several residents have accused Trasaco of leveraging political connections, with some alleging ties to former President John Dramani Mahama. However, sources indicate that Chief of Staff Julius Debrah and NDC Chairman Johnson Asiedu have urged law enforcement to ensure strict adherence to the rule of law.
“The government cannot allow foreigners to terrorize Ghanaians on their own soil,” a source said.
Madam Grace Durowaa, one of the affected homeowners, described her ordeal, saying she had spent 25 years saving to build her home. “Sunday at 5am, I got a call from my caretaker that Trasaco was breaking my house. I got there, and there were about 12 land guards dressed in black pointing at me, saying they had orders from Trasaco. I thank the Adentan District police, the regional commander, and Her Ladyship Angela Attachie for standing up to this oppressor and wicked man Trasaco who has destroyed everything I have worked for,” she recounted.
Police investigations continue as the case moves through the courts, with authorities pledging to ensure that justice is delivered.
