The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially unveiled the academic calendar for the 2025/2026 school year, setting clear timelines for Kindergarten, Primary, and Junior High Schools nationwide.
According to the released schedule, the first term will kick off on September 2, 2025, and run until December 18, 2025.
This will be followed by a holiday break lasting until January 7, 2026. The second term is slated to begin on January 8 and conclude on April 1, 2026, with a mid-term vacation from April 2 to April 20.
The third and final term of the academic year will commence on April 21, 2026, and end on July 23, 2026, after which students will embark on the year’s longest break.
A key highlight of the calendar is the scheduling of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), which will take place from May 4 to May 11, 2026.
This examination marks a critical milestone for Junior High School students advancing to senior high school.
The calendar also includes two-day mid-term breaks for each term to give students and teachers much-needed respite.
In a statement, the Ghana Education Service urged all educational stakeholders—teachers, parents, and students—to take note of the timeline and make necessary preparations to ensure a seamless and productive academic year.
With this detailed framework in place, Ghana aims to provide a well-structured academic environment that supports both learning and well-being.
