The family of Charity Boateng, a Ghanaian woman suffering from end-stage kidney failure, has issued a heartfelt plea for urgent financial support to fund a life-saving kidney transplant.
Charity is currently undergoing bi-weekly hemodialysis treatments at Banahene Specialist Hospital in Accra. However, doctors warn that without a kidney transplant, her survival chances remain slim. The family is urgently searching for both a matching donor and funds to cover the expensive procedure.
“Our sister Charity Boateng is battling with end-stage kidney failure and is in dire need of a life-saving transplant,” the family said in a public statement, appealing to the generosity of the community.
A medical report signed by Dr Dexter Nana Bannor Rampson, Resident Medical Officer at Banahene Specialist Hospital, confirms Charity’s diagnosis of end-stage renal disease (ESRD). She has been on dialysis treatment since 2023 as a temporary measure to sustain her life.
The report estimates the total cost of the kidney transplant procedure, to be carried out in India, at between $28,000 and $40,000 USD — roughly Ghc 392,000 to Ghc 560,000 — which covers all medical and logistical expenses for both Charity and the donor.
Faced with these overwhelming costs, Charity’s family has appealed for urgent contributions, providing an Ecobank account number for donations to support the treatment.
As time runs out, the community’s support is critical to give Charity the chance to receive the transplant that could save her life.
