Gabon unveils first airbus A320 in national airline fleet revival

Gabon’s national airline, Fly Gabon, marked a historic milestone on 25 July 2025 with the official reception of its first Airbus A320, a significant upgrade to the country’s aviation ambitions.
The ceremony, held at the Presidential Air Group facility, was presided over by President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, according to a statement from the Presidency.
The aircraft, renowned globally for its reliability and passenger comfort, becomes the first Airbus to join the fleet of Fly Gabon—an airline founded in November 2023 under the leadership of President Oligui Nguema.
The initiative came nearly two decades after the closure of Air Gabon, and the new carrier completed its maiden flight in August 2024, linking the capital Libreville to the economic hub of Port-Gentil.
Equipped with 126 seats—16 in Business Class and 110 in Economy—the new A320 is set to enhance domestic and regional connectivity.
The aircraft will not only bolster existing routes but will also open new destinations, including future flights to Johannesburg.
The handover ceremony was steeped in symbolism, featuring military honours and a traditional blessing of the aircraft.
The event drew attendance from high-ranking civil and military officials, highlighting the national significance of the occasion.
With the addition of this Airbus, Fly Gabon now operates a fleet of seven aircraft. The move underscores the government’s commitment to building a reliable, modern, and accessible aviation network to support both domestic mobility and international integration.
The acquisition reflects a strategic push by Gabonese authorities to reclaim the country’s place in regional air transport and stimulate economic growth through improved infrastructure and connectivity.
