Gabon’s Secretary General of the Democratic Party (PDG), Angélique Ngoma, is out of danger following a dramatic traffic accident on the Fougamou-Mouila road on Wednesday afternoon.
The Toyota Land Cruiser carrying Ms. Ngoma, her aide-de-camp Warrant Officer Major Niombe Nyondou, and driver Sergeant Major Bie Emane Norou Junior, reportedly rolled five times after a sudden tire burst between the villages of Mboukou and Rembo.
While Ms. Ngoma sustained general pain, her aide suffered minor injuries. The driver was seriously injured, experiencing temporary loss of mobility in his limbs. All three were rushed to the Canadian Hospital in Mouila for urgent treatment before being airlifted to the military hospital in Libreville, arriving at 5:33 p.m., just over an hour after the accident.
Medical staff described Ms. Ngoma’s survival and relatively minor injuries as remarkable given the severity of the crash. Her political team expressed deep gratitude to the medical personnel and extended wishes for a speedy recovery to all those injured.
The incident highlights the dangers of travel on Gabon’s rural roads, where sudden vehicle malfunctions can quickly turn life-threatening. Despite the traumatic event, Ms. Ngoma’s prompt medical attention and the quick response of emergency services played a critical role in preventing more serious outcomes.
Officials have confirmed that Ms. Ngoma is now stable and expected to resume her political duties shortly. The accident has drawn attention across the country, with many expressing relief that the Secretary General survived and escaped serious harm.
The driver remains under medical care while recovering mobility, and authorities have launched an investigation into the vehicle’s condition to prevent similar incidents in the future.
