French envoy visits conakry to discuss guinea’s constitutional transition

In a diplomatic visit reflecting growing international interest in Guinea’s political transition, French lawmaker Bruno Fuchs arrived in Conakry on Friday to assess the progress of the country’s constitutional process.
Fuchs, who serves as President of the Foreign Affairs Committee in France’s National Assembly and represents the Haut-Rhin department, met with Guinea’s Prime Minister to discuss the path forward.
Appointed as a special envoy by the French government, Fuchs focused his visit on the upcoming constitutional referendum—an important milestone in Guinea’s post-transition roadmap.
The envoy shared France’s perspective on the value of inclusive governance and emphasized the lessons drawn from similar democratic experiences elsewhere on the continent.
Speaking on behalf of the French parliament, Fuchs reaffirmed support for Guinea’s efforts: “There is only one ambition, common to Guinean citizens as well as people around the world: to fully participate in the life of their country and contribute to its development.”
He stressed that a successful transition must be grounded in robust institutions, human rights protections, and broad societal inclusion.
Fuchs also referenced Gabon’s experience as a potential model, highlighting the importance of comparative insights in navigating democratic reforms.
The Guinean Prime Minister welcomed the French delegation and expressed appreciation for the support demonstrated by France.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to a credible and transparent transition, underscoring the importance of international partnerships as Guinea prepares for its constitutional referendum.
“We remain open to all forms of support or proposals that can accompany and strengthen this process,” the Prime Minister stated.
The meeting in Conakry signals renewed cooperation between Guinea and France during a pivotal moment in Guinea’s political evolution.
As the nation edges closer to a constitutional vote, international observers are closely monitoring developments, hopeful that Guinea’s transition will emerge as a model of peaceful democratic renewa.
