Farida Khalil, a rising star of Egypt’s national modern pentathlon team, delivered a stellar performance to capture the gold medal in the women’s individual final at the 2025 Modern Pentathlon World Cup Final, held in Alexandria.
Hosted at the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport, the prestigious event concluded after three days of high-stakes competition.
Khalil secured victory with an impressive total of 1,470 points, capping a dominant season in which she claimed three golds and a silver across the World Cup circuit. Her consistency and precision across the five demanding disciplines cemented her place among the sport’s elite.
South Korea’s Seungmin Seong finished close behind in second place with 1,443 points, while Hungary’s Blanka Guzi took bronze with 1,440 points. Egypt’s Malak Ismail also delivered a strong showing, finishing 12th with 1,390 points.
The medal ceremony drew an array of international dignitaries, including Rob Stull, President of the International Modern Pentathlon Union (UIPM); Engineer Sherif al-Arian, Vice President of the UIPM and President of the Egyptian Modern Pentathlon Federation; and Klaus Schormann, Honorary President of the UIPM.
This year’s World Cup Final was particularly notable as it marked the historic debut of the obstacle discipline at a final-level tournament. The new event, which replaced horse riding following the Paris 2024 Olympics, represents a major shift in the sport’s format. Egypt played a pioneering role in the discipline’s rollout, becoming the first country to host an official senior-level competition featuring obstacles at the season’s opening round in February at the American University in Cairo.
Khalil’s triumph in Alexandria not only underscores Egypt’s growing influence in the modern pentathlon world but also highlights her as a formidable contender on the global stage, especially as the sport enters a transformative new era.
