Environment minister engages with UN industrial development delegation at climate conference
Mauritania’s Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development, Masouda Bint Baham Ould Mohamed Laghdaf, held talks with a delegation from the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) on the sidelines of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties on Climate Change in Baku.
The UNIDO delegation included senior specialist Zhou, focused on the Montreal Protocol, Kigali Amendment, and climate change, alongside project manager Yacine Sharabi from the Montreal Protocol Division.
Discussions centered on fostering collaboration in climate change mitigation through innovative industrial development solutions.
Both parties explored the alignment of technical assistance for implementing the Kigali Amendment, emphasizing the crucial role of innovation in reducing and adapting to the impacts of climate change.
The session highlighted the need for increased deployment of technological options to curb greenhouse gas emissions effectively.
The meeting was attended by Ahmed Ould Zein from the minister’s office.
In a separate engagement at the Mauritanian pavilion during the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties on Climate Change in Baku, Minister Masouda Bint Baham Ould Mohamed Laghdaf exchanged views with a delegation from the Sahara and Sahel Observatory (OSS).
The meeting was led by Khula Jawi, Director of the Climate Change Sector at the OSS.
The dialogue focused on reviewing the environmental partnership between Mauritania and the OSS, with particular emphasis on joint projects funded to combat climate change.
The parties also discussed ways to expand their collaboration to cover all environmental aspects, notably those concerning pollution control.
The meeting saw the presence of Sidi Mohamed Ould El Ouafi from the minister’s office and Aziz Ben Hamza, project manager at the Sahara and Sahel Observatory.
