Egyptian music icon Ehab Tawfik brought the crowd to its feet on Sunday night as he headlined the opening concert of the 2025 Summer Opera Festival, transforming the Alexandria Sports Stadium into a sea of nostalgia and celebration.
In a bold departure from tradition, the Egyptian Opera House chose to launch this year’s festival in the open-air stadium—a venue historically reserved for sports—to create a more inclusive cultural experience. Thousands gathered under the stars, their cheers echoing through the historic Mediterranean city as Tawfik delivered an unforgettable performance.
The singer, celebrated for his soulful voice and enduring popularity since the 1990s, performed a medley of his most beloved hits. Songs like Sahran, Amel Amel, Ahla Menhom, Mushtaq, and Ma Tahlawish Aktar Men Kedah transported fans back to the golden era of Arabic pop.
The atmosphere soared with energy as Tawfik continued with classics such as Hedi El Kamar, Bahebak Ya Asmarani, Elmi Elmi, and Fe Had Shafna, each met with resounding applause.
Crowd favorites El Sahra Gamida, Ma Lahamesh Fe El Tayeb, Kadak, Maraseel Maraseel, and Ala Keefak Mil followed, with fans singing every word in unison. The night concluded on a high with emotional renditions of Allah Alaik Ya Sidi and Tatarja Fia, solidifying Tawfik’s status as a generational voice that continues to inspire.
Organized under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture and the Alexandria Governorate, the festival represents a new vision for public arts in Egypt.
By relocating the concerts to the stadium, organizers aim to democratize access to high culture and engage wider segments of society. The event runs through July 31 and promises a rich lineup of music, art, and cultural performances that celebrate both heritage and innovation.
As the crowd slowly dispersed into the Alexandria night, one thing was clear: the Summer Opera 2025 Festival had struck a powerful chord with the people—both in melody and in meaning.
