Egypt vows comprehensive cooperation with Burkina Faso in diplomatic mission to ouagadougou

In a clear signal of growing bilateral ties, Burkina Faso’s President, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, received Egyptian Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Abdelaty in Ouagadougou on Tuesday.
The visit marked the delivery of a personal message from Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, reaffirming Egypt’s commitment to expanding cooperation across all sectors with Burkina Faso.
“I conveyed the greetings and full support of the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt to President Captain Ibrahim Traoré,” said Dr. Abdelaty following their meeting. “I also handed him a written message regarding our bilateral cooperation and Egypt’s ongoing commitment to strengthen that partnership.”
The high-level discussions focused on key shared interests, including investment, trade, security, and defense—especially the fight against terrorism. Dr. Abdelaty underscored Egypt’s unwavering support for the Alliance of Sahel States (AES), comprising Burkina Faso, Niger, and Mali.
“Egypt is committed to supporting the three AES countries in their collective struggle against terrorism,” he stated. “We will continue to provide all forms of assistance, and in strengthening our relationship, we are prepared for every type of cooperation with Burkina Faso and all our brotherly nations within the AES.”
The Egyptian envoy praised President Traoré’s dedication to African unity and his leadership in defending Burkina Faso’s sovereignty. “We deeply thank President Traoré for his support of African unity and his efforts to uphold national sovereignty,” Dr. Abdelaty said, highlighting opportunities for collaboration in sectors such as agriculture, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and infrastructure development.
During the audience, Dr. Abdelaty also expressed Egypt’s gratitude for Burkina Faso’s backing of former Egyptian Minister of Tourism, Dr. Khaled El-Enany, in his candidacy for the position of Director-General of UNESCO.
The visit signals a renewed diplomatic momentum between Egypt and Burkina Faso, with both nations poised to transform their shared vision into tangible cooperation for the benefit of their peoples.
