Egypt unveils nation’s first advanced simulation lab for health technicians in ismailia

Ismailia, 21 July 2025 — Egypt’s healthcare sector marked a major milestone on Monday as Health Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, alongside Ismailia Governor Major General Akram Galal, inaugurated the country’s first advanced simulation laboratory at the Ismailia Technical Health Institute.
The launch event brought together top health officials and international partners, including German Ambassador to Cairo Jürgen Schulz, Unified Procurement Authority Head Dr. Hisham Sayed, Healthcare Authority President Dr. Ahmed El-Sobky, and other senior ministry figures.
Representing Siemens Healthineers Egypt were CEO Amr Kandil and Government Sector Sales Head Diaa El-Shenawy, reflecting the multinational’s strategic partnership with the Egyptian Ministry of Health.
The state-of-the-art facility, the first of its kind in Egypt, is designed to revolutionize technical health education.
It features cutting-edge simulation technology for training in diagnostic and interventional radiology, providing a highly interactive and immersive environment to equip students with critical clinical and technical skills.
The lab comprises three main training zones: a hall for MRI and CT scan simulation, a training room for ultrasound equipment, and a virtual reality suite. This integrated approach blends theory with real-world practice, preparing graduates to meet the demands of modern healthcare systems.
“This initiative is part of the government’s broader strategy to modernize medical and technical education in Egypt,” said Dr.
Abdel Ghaffar. “It reflects the political leadership’s directives to invest in a skilled healthcare workforce and demonstrates our successful collaboration with Siemens Healthineers Egypt, who generously gifted this facility to the ministry.”
He added that a national plan is underway to develop radiology departments in 13 health technical institutes across the country, with a focus on updating curricula, training instructors, and outfitting institutions with similar simulation labs.
A comprehensive annual training schedule will be introduced to ensure optimal use of these facilities.
Dr. Abdel Ghaffar also announced upcoming simulation labs in other institutes, including one in Benha and additional locations across Upper Egypt.
Ambassador Schulz commended Egypt’s efforts, saying the lab showcases a firm commitment to enhancing medical education.
Siemens CEO Amr Kandil described the facility as a new chapter in their partnership with the ministry, pledging continued support for healthcare advancement in Egypt.
Dr. Mohamed Fawzy, the minister’s radiology advisor, highlighted the lab’s transformative impact on practical training, describing it as a qualitative leap in service and education within the radiology field.
