Tragedy struck in the city of Samanoud, Gharbiya Governorate, as the bodies of two 11-year-old girls were recovered after they drowned while playing in the waters of the Rahibin Sea.
The victims were identified as Jumana Bahaa al-Metwally al-Aazb and Hanin Maher Hafez Abdullah. Authorities confirmed that the incident occurred beneath the main bridge in the Rahibin Sea area, where the girls were reportedly playing before the tragedy unfolded.
Local residents discovered the bodies and promptly alerted the Samanoud Police Station.
Security forces from the Gharbiya Security Directorate, accompanied by a team from the criminal investigations unit, River Rescue, and ambulance services, were dispatched immediately to the site.
After the bodies were recovered, they were transferred to the morgue for examination. Legal measures were undertaken in line with standard procedures, and the Public Prosecution has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
“The Public Prosecution has tasked the criminal investigations unit with collecting all relevant information to determine the causes and conditions that led to this tragic event,” security officials stated.
The drowning has sparked grief in the local community, where residents expressed their sorrow and concern over the safety of children near open water areas. Authorities are expected to review the incident to assess any additional safety measures that may help prevent similar occurrences in the future.
