Speaking during a virtual meeting with the Egyptian community in Los Angeles on Sunday, Deputy Foreign Minister for Migration and Egyptians Abroad Affairs, Ambassador Nabil Habashi, outlined the organisational roadmap for the upcoming event.
He emphasised the importance of the conference as a platform to hear directly from Egyptian nationals around the world, to understand their aspirations, and to collect actionable proposals.
“The sixth edition will include new segments designed specifically for second- and third-generation Egyptians abroad,” Ambassador Habashi noted, highlighting the government’s effort to deepen generational ties with the homeland.
The online meeting was attended by Ambassador Tamer El-Meligy, Assistant Foreign Minister for Consular and Expatriate Affairs, and Dr. Hossam El-Din Ali, Egypt’s Consul General in Los Angeles.
Ambassador Habashi praised the vibrant and committed role of the Egyptian-American community, especially during ongoing regional challenges.
“Your active support is vital to our national interests and economic development,” he stated, adding that the Ministry places high priority on improving consular services and maintaining consistent communication with Egyptians across all age groups abroad.
He also urged the community to participate in the country’s upcoming elections, describing it as “a constitutional right and national duty.”
The session featured a detailed presentation of government initiatives tailored to serve Egyptian expatriates, including secure digital money transfer channels, simplified banking access, preferential housing and agricultural land opportunities, and special academic benefits at Egyptian universities.
Ambassador Tamer El-Meligy reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to fully digitising consular services and coordinating with all state institutions to address common barriers—particularly the issuance of national ID cards abroad.
He concluded by reminding citizens of the importance of complying with immigration and residency laws in the United States. “Respecting host country laws is the best safeguard for your safety and legal status,” he said.
Ambassador Habashi wrapped up the session by responding to all questions from community members and pledged to study every proposal aimed at enhancing the quality of services offered to Egyptians abroad.
