Egypt reaffirms strong backing for Chad’s development drive during diplomatic visit

Egypt’s Foreign Minister, Badr Abdelatty, has reaffirmed Cairo’s unwavering support for Chad’s development agenda, pledging increased cooperation across multiple sectors including infrastructure, energy, health, education, agriculture, and capacity building.
Speaking during a brief visit to N’Djamena on Monday, July 21, Abdelatty met with his Chadian counterpart, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mahamat Saleh Annadif, ahead of the launch of his wider West Africa tour.
In a statement following their talks, Abdelatty said, “We fully support the development projects in Chad, particularly in the domains of infrastructure, energy, education, health, agriculture and capacity building.”
The ministers held in-depth discussions on regional developments, with particular focus on the growing insecurity in the Sahel and the Horn of Africa. Both diplomats emphasized the urgent need for stability in these regions and the importance of cross-border cooperation.
Abdelatty lauded the growing strength of Egyptian-Chadian relations, emphasizing Egypt’s dedication to seeing through the ambitious overland road project connecting the two nations. “This project is of top priority. It will boost trade exchange and facilitate the movement of people and goods between Egypt and Chad,” he said.
He further stated that Egyptian companies are ready to assist Chad with constructing dams and building rainwater harvesting wells—key infrastructure critical for water management and agricultural resilience in the country’s arid regions.
On the educational front, Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s commitment to establishing a diplomatic studies institute in Chad aimed at training Chadian diplomats and civil servants.
He also expressed his country’s support for the swift completion and launch of the Alexandria University branch in N’Djamena, a symbol of educational diplomacy between the two nations.
The visit marks a significant reaffirmation of bilateral ties, with Egypt positioning itself as a strategic partner in Chad’s national development journey.
