Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi has emphasized that expediting production and exploration projects is a top priority for Egypt’s petroleum sector, highlighting the role of these initiatives in boosting production rates, maximizing economic returns, and reducing the country’s import bill.
During a surprise visit to the headquarters of Badr El Din Petroleum Company in the Western Desert on Monday, Badawi underscored the importance of close monitoring and the implementation of innovative solutions and modern technology as essential drivers for improving sector performance.
“Any increase in production, regardless of its magnitude, has a direct impact on reducing the burden of the import bill,” he stated.
The Minister stressed the critical role of regular field follow-ups by company leaders, particularly presidents, to oversee on-site implementation, support work teams, and ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
He described the human workforce as “the true wealth of the petroleum sector” and expressed appreciation for the efforts of staff across petroleum sites, recognizing their contributions to maintaining Egypt’s energy supplies for citizens and industrial sectors.
Eng. Ashraf Abdel Gawad, Chairman of Badr El Din Petroleum Company, briefed the Minister on the progress of drilling, production, and exploration programs for the 2025/2026 fiscal year, highlighting adherence to planned targets and budgets, as well as ongoing implementation of the latest safety and environmental systems at company sites.
At the conclusion of the visit, Badawi directed that measures continue to enhance performance across all company operations, emphasizing the use of advanced technology to increase production capacity. He also extended his thanks to the company’s employees for their dedication in the Western Desert, stressing the importance of their work in sustaining Egypt’s energy sector.
The visit forms part of the Minister and senior officials’ ongoing commitment to field monitoring, direct engagement with executive leaders, and support for operational teams. These efforts aim to overcome challenges, maintain uninterrupted production, expand exploration, and secure new discoveries that will strengthen the sector’s output, ensuring local energy needs are met while reducing reliance on imports.
By prioritizing accelerated production and exploration, Egypt seeks to bolster energy security, stimulate economic growth, and enhance the petroleum sector’s contribution to the national economy.
