The Egyptian National Railways Authority has unveiled a new luxury train service connecting Cairo and Assiut, alongside a series of schedule adjustments across its network, aiming to enhance travel for passengers from Upper Egypt.
The Authority announced on Monday that, starting next Saturday, Train 930 – a second-class luxury service – will depart Cairo Station at 08:30, arriving in Assiut at 13:20. The return journey, Train 929, will leave Assiut Station at 13:40 and reach Cairo at 18:30.
This new timetable is intended to provide a more comfortable and convenient option for travellers along the busy Cairo–Assiut corridor.
In addition, the Authority confirmed that the Alexandria–Cairo line will be extended to Assiut.
Train 926 will depart Alexandria at 04:45, reaching Assiut by 12:15, while the return service, Train 927, will leave Assiut at 16:00, arriving in Alexandria at 23:50.
These enhancements reflect the Authority’s broader effort to expand access to luxury rail services beyond traditional metropolitan routes.
The introduction of these services also prompted revisions to the schedules of several other trains, including numbers 979, 974, 736, 703, 157, 3018, 713, 153, 159, 978, 944, 975, 81, 4, 31, and 3503. The Authority emphasised that these changes aim to “provide distinguished service to citizens on all lines of the railway network,” ensuring improved connectivity and passenger experience.
The luxury carriages, featuring upgraded seating and amenities, are part of the Egyptian Railways’ ongoing modernisation programme, which has prioritised comfort, punctuality, and service quality in recent years. Officials highlighted that the new routes are expected to ease travel for Upper Egyptian residents while supporting domestic tourism and regional mobility.
Passengers are advised to consult updated timetables before planning their journeys, as the schedule changes will affect both long-distance and intercity services across the national network.
