
The eighteenth edition of the National Festival of Egyptian Theatre is captivating audiences across Cairo, as state-run theatres continue to showcase a rich array of performances under the theme, “The National Festival of Theatre in All of Egypt.”
The festival, led by renowned artist Mohamed Riad, runs until 6 August and celebrates the vitality of Egyptian theatre, from official productions to independent and amateur troupes.
Sunday’s schedule reflects the breadth of this cultural celebration.
The Supreme Council of Culture will host a symposium from 3:00 to 4:00 pm honoring artist Abeer Ali, with contributions from Dr. Lamia Anwar and moderation by Maysa Zaki.
Later, the festival’s fourteenth session will take place from 4:15 to 5:15 pm, featuring Saeed Suleiman and Yasmine Imam, moderated by Dr. Mohamed Amin Abdel Samad.
The day’s theatrical highlights begin at 7:00 pm with “Right First Left,” directed by Abdullah Saber, at the Youssef Idris Hall, followed by “Les Misérables” at the Hanager Arts Center, directed by Mahmoud Gratz. At 9:00 pm, the Miami Theater will host “The Sea Groom,” directed by Walid Talat, while the Rod El Farag Theatre will stage “The First to See the Sun,” directed by Ahmed Zaki. All performances will be attended by members of the jury.
Organized under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture, headed by Dr. Ahmed Fouad Hano, the festival brings together 35 theatrical productions in its official competition, alongside three sideline performances. The event unites artists from across Egypt, including official, independent, university, and amateur theatre groups, reflecting the country’s vibrant and diverse cultural landscape.
By drawing audiences into a celebration of Egypt’s rich theatrical traditions, the National Festival of Egyptian Theatre continues to affirm its role as a vital platform for creativity, dialogue, and cultural exchange across the nation.
