Egypt and Bosnia and Herzegovina have signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation in the tourism sector, officials announced during a series of high-level meetings in Sarajevo this week.
Sherif Fathy, Egypt’s Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, met with Stasa Kosarac, Bosnia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations, to discuss strategies for boosting tourism between the two countries.
The meetings were attended by senior diplomats and officials, including Egypt’s Ambassador to Sarajevo, Walid Hagag, and Ahmed Youssef, Assistant Minister of Tourism and Acting CEO of the Egyptian Tourism Promotion Authority.
Following the discussions, the two ministers signed the memorandum, which aims to establish a framework for joint initiatives, knowledge exchange, and tourism promotion.
Both ministers highlighted the agreement as a starting point for expanding cooperation and opening broader opportunities for investment and cultural exchange.
Fathy expressed his appreciation for the warm reception in Sarajevo and stressed Egypt’s commitment to developing tourism relations with Bosnia.
“There are many opportunities for cooperation between the two countries in this field,” he said, noting plans for familiarization trips for tourism representatives, joint workshops, and promotional campaigns.
He also highlighted Egypt’s international marketing strategy under the slogan “Egypt…
Unparalleled Diversity,” which leverages modern tools, including artificial intelligence, to showcase the country’s unique tourism offerings.
Bosnia’s Deputy Prime Minister welcomed the agreement and emphasized the potential to expand inter-tourism between the two nations.
He also noted Bosnia’s participation in Expo 2027 in Belgrade, which will feature a temporary exhibition of ancient Egyptian antiquities, and extended an invitation to Egypt to participate in the Sarajevo Film Festival next year.
The ministers discussed collaboration in training and skills development in the tourism and hotel sectors, with Fathy highlighting efforts to unify academic and practical education for students in Egypt’s tourism colleges.
Ambassador Walid Hagag described the memorandum as a significant boost to bilateral cooperation, reflecting the momentum in economic, cultural, and diplomatic relations between Egypt and Bosnia, with tourism seen as a central pillar of the partnership.
