Egyptian security forces have successfully neutralized a group of dangerous criminals and seized narcotics and unlicensed firearms in coordinated operations across multiple governorates.
The Ministry of Interior confirmed that four suspects were killed during a gunfight with police in Assiut, marking a major blow to organised crime networks.
The operations, conducted by the Public Security and Anti-Narcotics, Arms, and Unlicensed Ammunition sectors in coordination with the Central Security Sector, targeted criminal hotspots known for trafficking drugs and illegal firearms.
Investigations revealed that these groups were attempting to smuggle substantial quantities of narcotics and weaponry for distribution across the country.
“The operation resulted in the death of four highly dangerous criminal elements, one of whom had been sentenced to death, while the others faced prison and life sentences for murder, drug trafficking, armed robbery, and possession of firearms,” the Ministry stated.
Authorities also arrested additional suspects involved in these networks. During searches, security forces recovered over 180 kilograms of illicit substances, including hashish, shabu, astrox, powder, heroin, cocaine, and opium. Alongside the drugs, 104 unlicensed firearms were seized, comprising 58 shotguns, 30 automatic rifles, 9 additional shotguns, 6 pistols, and a Greenoff machine gun. The estimated market value of the confiscated narcotics exceeds 55 million Egyptian pounds.
The Ministry of Interior emphasised that these operations are part of a sustained campaign to dismantle criminal organisations, prevent drug trafficking, and curb the circulation of illegal firearms in Egypt.
“These preemptive strikes reflect our commitment to public safety and the rule of law, ensuring that criminal networks are neutralised before they can threaten communities,” the Ministry said.
The raids are expected to significantly disrupt the activities of organised crime in Assiut and other governorates, sending a clear message to criminal networks operating within Egypt that law enforcement agencies remain vigilant and ready to act.
Authorities confirmed that legal procedures are ongoing to prosecute all arrested individuals and ensure that justice is served.
