Egypt’s Public Prosecution has announced the continuation of its initiative allowing traffic fines to be paid in interest-free installments throughout the month of August, in a move aimed at easing financial pressure on citizens ahead of the new school year.
The measure is part of an ongoing cooperation protocol between the Public Prosecution and Banque Misr, first introduced in June, which enables holders of Banque Misr credit cards to pay traffic violation penalties without incurring any interest or administrative fees.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Public Prosecution confirmed: “The cooperation protocol between the Public Prosecution and Banque Misr for interest-free traffic fine installments will remain in effect during August, to support citizens and alleviate financial burdens as the academic year begins.”
The protocol, originally announced on June 1st, has been praised as a step towards more accessible and citizen-focused governance.
It allows eligible cardholders to manage their dues without the added strain of extra costs.
According to the terms of the agreement, Banque Misr credit cardholders can settle their fines in manageable monthly payments throughout the month, with zero interest and no additional fees, under the conditions set by both parties.
The Public Prosecution has called on citizens who qualify for the programme to take full advantage of the initiative before the offer ends.
It also reaffirmed its commitment to expanding the scheme through partnerships with other banks across the Arab Republic of Egypt.
“The Public Prosecution is working to generalise this experience in coordination with other banks operating in Egypt, to continue facilitating financial settlements for all citizens,” the statement concluded.
The initiative has been welcomed as a timely relief measure during a period when families face heightened expenses, reaffirming the state’s intention to support citizens through practical economic reforms.
