The Ministry of Industry has firmly denied reports suggesting the cancellation of the “Chinese Charging Protocol” for electric vehicles, calling the claims “inaccurate and misleading.”
The ministry confirmed that no official decision has been issued regarding the protocol, either by the Ministry itself or any other government body.
“These discussions were held at the request of an electric vehicle company,” a ministry spokesperson explained. “The ministry is always open to companies to discuss the challenges they face.”
The clarification comes amid circulating media and social media speculation that the government had scrapped the Chinese charging standards.
The issue was reportedly raised during meetings of the Ministerial Group for Industrial Development, where officials assessed the implications of importing electric vehicles with different charging specifications, including European and Chinese standards.
The ministry emphasised that the goal of these discussions is to develop balanced policies that protect Egypt’s domestic industry, maintain market stability, and safeguard consumer rights.
“China remains a major strategic partner of Egypt in industry and transportation,” the ministry statement read. “Bilateral relations are built on solid foundations of mutual respect and shared interests, and they will not be affected by such rumours or inaccurate news.”
The Ministry of Industry urged media outlets to ensure the accuracy of their reporting and rely solely on official statements to prevent confusion or potential harm to Egypt’s international relations.
Officials also highlighted that the government continues to implement its vision for industrial development while actively supporting the transition to electric vehicles. “Our commitment is to promote sustainability, environmental conservation, and consumer protection, while maintaining a stable and competitive industrial sector,” the ministry added.
The clarification is intended to reassure both domestic stakeholders and international partners that Egypt remains committed to fostering innovation in the electric vehicle sector while strengthening its industrial policies and bilateral cooperation with China.
This statement comes as Egypt accelerates efforts to develop sustainable transportation solutions and promote electric vehicle adoption as part of its broader environmental and industrial strategy.
