The Egyptian government has affirmed its full preparedness to confront any potential economic fallout from the escalating geopolitical crisis in the Middle East, following recent U.S. airstrikes on Iranian targets.
Cabinet spokesperson Mohamed al-Homsany, in a televised interview on Extra News on Sunday evening, stated that Egypt is carefully monitoring the rapidly evolving regional situation and evaluating all possible outcomes to protect its national interests.
“The government is closely following regional developments, especially in light of the recent U.S. strikes on Iran, and is working to study all possible scenarios to minimize the impact on the Egyptian economy,” Homsany said.
He confirmed that Egypt’s Crisis Management Committee has been actively reviewing a range of risks, including rising global oil prices, increased costs of shipping and insurance, and potential disruptions in international supply chains.
“These risks are not limited to Egypt,” he added. “They are being faced by most countries across the globe and therefore require comprehensive readiness to mitigate their repercussions on our economy.”
Addressing public concerns over access to essential goods, Homsany offered reassurance, saying that Egypt’s strategic reserves of basic food commodities remain robust and well-secured.
“The strategic stock of food commodities is safe and secure, sufficient for several months, with some commodities having a stockpile exceeding six months,” he noted.
He emphasized that this preparedness was no coincidence.
“This stockpile was established last year under the direction of President Sisi, in anticipation of any regional developments, and we have succeeded in securing it in a manner that ensures citizens’ needs are met for the long term.”
The statement comes amid increasing global anxiety over the ripple effects of heightened military tensions between the U.S. and Iran, with nations across the region bracing for possible economic and security consequences.
Egypt, a key regional player, appears determined to weather the storm with foresight and stability.
