Major General Dr. Hesham Abu El-Nasr, Governor of Assiut, conducted a comprehensive inspection of the ongoing construction of a new wholesale market for vegetables and fruits in Kom El Ahmar village, located within the Badari Center.
This ambitious project forms part of the broader local development program in Upper Egypt, championed by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, aimed at improving services and stimulating economic growth across the southern governorates.
Spanning five acres with an investment of approximately 115 million Egyptian pounds, the market is designed to regulate the trade of fruit and vegetables in Badari and surrounding areas, placing special emphasis on the region’s signature agricultural products such as pomegranates and citrus fruits.
During his visit, Governor Abu El-Nasr was joined by key officials including Eng. Essam Abdel Zaher, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Housing; Eng. Mohsen Mahmoud, Head of the Southern Electricity Sector; and Abdel Raouf El Nemr, Head of Badari Center and City.
Representatives from the company executing the project were also present to provide detailed updates.
The new facility will house 75 commercial shops ranging between 75 and 140 square meters each, a 1,000-square-meter administrative building, and a central refrigeration unit designed to preserve produce quality throughout the year.
“Wholesale markets are vital to stabilizing local prices and limiting intermediaries between producers and consumers,” said Major General Hesham Abu El-Nasr.
He highlighted the project’s critical role in maintaining price balance and supporting market stability.
The Governor emphasized the importance of accelerating construction progress and adhering to deadlines, noting the government’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure and fostering a vibrant economic environment.
“Supporting local economic projects is a cornerstone of our efforts to generate employment, stimulate growth, and ensure sustainable development,” he stated.
This initiative aligns closely with President El-Sisi’s vision of building an integrated, resilient society in Upper Egypt, driven by sustainable service and infrastructure projects aimed at transforming the region’s economic landscape.
