Authorities in Cairo have arrested the owner of an unlicensed printing press accused of producing and selling thousands of foreign textbooks without proper authorization.
According to the Cairo Security Directorate, the operation was uncovered by the General Department of Publications Investigations and Intellectual Property Rights Protection at the Specialized Police Sector.
Investigations revealed that the suspect had been operating an illegal printing facility and warehouse within the Manshiyat Nasser Police Department’s jurisdiction, where large quantities of textbooks were being reproduced and distributed unlawfully.
Following coordination with the relevant authorities, security forces raided the premises.
The operation resulted in the seizure of more than 29,000 unauthorized copies of textbooks covering various subjects and academic levels.
Officials confirmed that the textbooks had been produced without obtaining the necessary permits, constituting a clear violation of intellectual property and copyright laws.
When confronted with the evidence during the raid, the printing press owner admitted to the illicit activity. Authorities have taken all necessary legal measures, and the case has been referred to the Public Prosecution for a full investigation.
The seizure is part of ongoing efforts by Egyptian authorities to combat intellectual property violations and protect the publishing industry from the spread of counterfeit educational materials.
