Egypt and Saudi Arabia are intensifying efforts to boost collaboration in the mining sector, seeking to harness their shared potential and drive sustainable economic growth.
This was the focus of high-level discussions between Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Karim Badawi, and Saudi Arabia’s Deputy Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources for Mining Affairs, Khalid bin Saleh Al-Mudaifer, during the Egypt Mining Forum 2025.
Badawi highlighted the strides Egypt has made in creating a favourable investment climate for mining, underpinned by clear legislation and a competitive environment. “The ministry is committed to developing the mining sector through strategic projects,” he said, pointing in particular to the phosphoric acid project. “This project reflects our commitment to maximizing the added value of mineral ores,” he added, underscoring Egypt’s ambition to move beyond raw resource extraction.
He also praised the International Mining Conference organised by Saudi Arabia, noting the wealth of experience that Egypt could draw upon from its neighbour’s successful mining initiatives. Badawi further pointed to the promising mineral potential in southern Egypt, where seismic exploration is underway to unlock new investment opportunities.
Expressing his satisfaction with the forum, Eng. Khalid bin Saleh Al-Mudaifer said, “There is significant shared potential between Egypt and Saudi Arabia in the mining sector.” He stressed that the geographic proximity of the two countries opens doors for deeper integration and cooperation with global partners. “The Red Sea region represents a promising investment opportunity that could attract international investments and strengthen our bilateral ties,” he noted.
Both officials agreed that enhanced cooperation in mining not only serves their countries’ economic interests but also contributes to sustainable development in the region. As Egypt and Saudi Arabia forge ahead, the mining sector stands poised to become a cornerstone of their growing partnership, creating opportunities for investors and communities alike.
