The Minister of Labor in charge of Formalization and Social Protection, HE Mr. Omar Abdi Said, held a high-level meeting on Tuesday with Mr. Khumbula Ndaba, the Regional Director of the International Labor Organization (ILO) for East Africa, who is currently on an official visit to Djibouti.
The discussions focused on the country’s national priorities related to decent employment, the promotion of social dialogue, and the strengthening of social protection systems.
The meeting served as a platform to reaffirm the shared commitment of both parties to deepening technical cooperation between Djibouti’s Ministry of Labor and the ILO.
Minister Said expressed his appreciation for the ILO’s continued support, especially in the context of ongoing reforms aimed at improving labor governance and enhancing the overall social climate in the country.
He emphasized the importance of sustained international collaboration in achieving long-term improvements in labor standards and formalization.
In response, Mr. Ndaba reiterated the ILO’s readiness to provide technical and policy support to Djibouti, particularly in implementing the international labor conventions that the country has ratified.
He acknowledged the significant progress made and expressed optimism about further strengthening the strategic partnership between the ILO and Djibouti.
“This visit marks a crucial milestone in aligning national labor strategies with international norms and best practices,” Mr. Ndaba noted, underscoring the role of such engagements in supporting the country’s socio-economic development agenda.
The meeting signals a reinforced alliance between the Djiboutian government and the ILO, aiming to build more inclusive labor markets and ensure protections that meet global standards for workers across the country.
