Crisis deepens between Bamboutos FC and FECAFOOT amid accusations of manipulation and unpaid dues

The escalating standoff between Bamboutos Football Club of Mbouda and the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) has taken a dramatic turn, as new accusations surface against the governing body.
In a statement issued on 18 April by Dechateau Kamdoum, the club’s chairman, Bamboutos alleges that FECAFOOT is manipulating local groups to exert pressure on its leadership, rather than engaging in honest negotiations.
The dispute began when Bamboutos FC announced its withdrawal from Cameroon’s top-tier league, the Elite One, citing unpaid dues by the federation totaling nearly 90 million CFA francs—accumulated over the past three years.
In addition to financial grievances, the club criticized the quality and fairness of refereeing during the current season.
Following initial announcements, Bamboutos FC expressed willingness to negotiate a resolution.
A meeting was reportedly held with FECAFOOT envoys on 16 April, but the talks failed, according to the club.
This version of events, however, was denied by the federation led by Samuel Eto’o.
“FECAFOOT has opted for manipulation instead of dialogue,” said Kamdoum in the latest Communication.
The club accuses the federation of inciting local motorcycle taxi groups in Mbouda to apply indirect pressure—a tactic Bamboutos calls both dangerous and irresponsible.
Criticism of FECAFOOT’s governance has intensified in recent years.
Observers and supporters of Bamboutos FC argue that the federation’s leadership is marked by opacity, disorganization, and political interference.
“This isn’t negotiation—it’s exploitation,” reads part of the club’s strongly worded response.
Amidst a growing storm of public debate, some online voices have rushed to defend the federation, dismissing the club’s complaints as sabotage.
But Bamboutos FC insists its actions are a matter of principle. “We reject underground maneuvers. This is about integrity,” the statement declared.
The club has reiterated its stance: if no fair resolution is reached, it will uphold its decision to withdraw from the championship.
With Cameroonian football under renewed scrutiny, the unfolding events could shape broader demands for reform and accountability within FECAFOOT.
