The Chinese medical team in Burkina Faso has made a significant donation of medical supplies to the University of Thomas Sankara in Ouagadougou, in a bid to improve healthcare and promote awareness among students.
The donation, valued at approximately 1.35 million CFA francs (around 2,180 USD), was presented on Thursday, November 14, 2024, and is part of the ongoing collaboration between China and Burkina Faso in the health sector.
The donated materials include antimalarial medications, surgical equipment, glucometers, pulse oximeters, and reagents for the detection of various viruses.
These essential supplies are intended to enhance the university’s medical resources and support the health of the student body.
As part of the initiative, the Chinese medical team also conducted free screening for infectious diseases and offered physical examinations to the students.
Additionally, informational materials on the prevention of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) were distributed to raise awareness and encourage healthier practices among the youth.
Pam Zahonogo, the President of Thomas Sankara University, expressed his gratitude to the Chinese team, highlighting the importance of their visit in providing medical support and health education to students.
“This initiative is an important step towards integrating health education into our academic program, and it is an asset to the university community,” he said.
Chen Daohu, head of the Chinese medical team, underscored the team’s commitment to not only delivering high-quality medical services to the people of Burkina Faso but also focusing on the health of students, both physically and mentally.
“We hope this activity will raise awareness about infectious disease prevention, improve students’ health, and motivate them to take an active role in public health initiatives,” he stated.
This donation and medical outreach initiative highlight the growing cooperation between China and Burkina Faso, with a focus on supporting public health and educating future generations on disease prevention and healthy living practices.
