The Maghreb continues to attract growing international economic interest, and now a major Chinese industrial player is setting its sights on Algeria.
Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC), a leading force in aeronautics and advanced technology, has announced plans to launch industrial projects with a strong technological focus in the country.
This move aligns with Algeria’s drive to diversify its economy and reduce its historic dependence on hydrocarbons by attracting strategic foreign investment.
Key discussions between Algeria’s Minister of Industry, Sifi Ghrieb, and AVIC’s Chairman, Eric Yang, centered on three pivotal objectives: establishing local production capabilities, transferring technological expertise, and integrating Algeria into industrial value chains serving both African and European markets.
For AVIC, these elements form the foundation of a long-term commitment to Algeria’s industrial development.
“The strategy goes beyond simple commercial presence,” the Chinese delegation emphasized.
“It’s about creating a production base, training local talent, and responding to rising demand for infrastructure and industrial equipment.”
Algeria’s unique geographic position, bridging the Mediterranean and the Sahara, offers an ideal logistical hub to expand into underdeveloped but promising continental markets.
The talks also included officials from Elec El Djazair, a local company poised to support the initiative.
Minister Ghrieb highlighted recent reforms—covering customs, taxation, and regulatory frameworks—that make Algeria increasingly attractive to multinational corporations.
She stressed the government’s political will to back projects that boost industrial capacity, create skilled jobs, and foster technological innovation.
On its part, AVIC pledged concrete steps, identifying pilot projects and committing to embed production firmly within Algeria.
The partnership aims to co-develop high value-added sectors and potentially transform Algeria’s industrial landscape.
This vision points to a new era of connected factories combining local manufacturing with global quality standards, potentially setting a benchmark for industrialization across the Maghreb region.
