Chadian football clubs barred from 2024–2025 CAF interclub competitions amid domestic league crisis

All Chadian clubs have been disqualified from participating in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) interclub competitions for the 2024–2025 season.
The decision, announced by the President of the Chadian Football Federation (FTFA), Tahir Oloy Hassan, comes amid ongoing issues surrounding the suspension of the national championship.
In a formal communiqué addressed to provincial football leagues, Hassan cited the absence of a fully functioning domestic league as the core reason for the exclusion.
“Although this decision is regrettable, it is dictated by the sporting realities of the country and by strict compliance with continental regulations,” he stated.
CAF’s regulations—specifically Articles 6 and 7—require that all member associations maintain a continuous and recognized national league.
Any interruption exceeding one year renders a federation ineligible to nominate clubs for continental competitions, including the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup.
Chad’s domestic football scene has been marred by persistent organizational challenges and administrative disputes.
The national championship has not seen consistent operation, a factor that ultimately led to the current disqualification.
The absence of Chadian representation at CAF tournaments not only affects club visibility and experience but could also have significant financial implications and dampen the morale of emerging local talent.
The FTFA has called on all regional and provincial league leaders to urgently collaborate in restructuring and reviving the national league.
“We must work together to restore the credibility of Chadian football and bring our clubs back to the African stage,” the federation urged in its statement.
This latest setback adds to the growing list of challenges facing Chadian football, and the road to continental reintegration now rests on the successful and sustainable revival of the country’s domestic competition structure.
