In the wake of recent tensions surrounding the arrest of Dr. Succès Masra, leader of the Les Transformateurs party, His Majesty Mbang Hadji Mahamat Woli, Sultan of Chari Baguirmi, has called for calm, dialogue, and respect for the rule of law.
Speaking at a press briefing in N’Djamena’s 7th district on Monday, the Sultan reaffirmed his role as a guardian of social cohesion and tradition in Chad.
“As Sultan of Chari Baguirmi, faithful to our mission to preserve social cohesion, we wish to express our position regarding the arrest of Dr. Succès Masra,” he declared, stressing his unwavering commitment to peace, justice, and respect for institutions.
“Any proceedings initiated against a Chadian citizen, regardless of their position, must respect the normal course of law, without interference or political pressure.”
The Sultan urged all parties to exercise restraint, warning against actions that could undermine judicial authority or inflame existing tensions.
Citing the recent community conflict in Mandakaou, which was peacefully resolved through intercommunity dialogue under the guidance of President Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno, the Sultan emphasized the enduring power of consultation in resolving disputes. “This agreement illustrates the power of dialogue and consultation in overcoming crises,” he said.
His Majesty also praised the President’s dedication to national unity, insisting that “disputes must be resolved within the framework of national institutions, with respect for the law, truth, and hard-won peace.”
Addressing supporters of Les Transformateurs, the Sultan appealed for restraint, urging them to foster sincere dialogue and respect local identities. “May wisdom guide our words and actions,” he concluded, delivering a heartfelt call for unity and harmony across Chad during this delicate moment.
