In a strategic move to diversify its maritime access routes, Chad has reinforced its logistics cooperation with the Republic of Benin through a high-level meeting between the Chad Shippers’ Council (COC-CHAD) and the management of the Autonomous Port of Cotonou.
Led by Hamid Djoumino, Director General of COC-CHAD, the Chadian delegation was received by Bart Van Eenoo, Director General of the Autonomous Port of Cotonou. The talks focused on enhancing the long-standing partnership between the two countries in the area of port logistics and transit operations, critical to Chad’s trade access as a landlocked nation.
Among the key outcomes of the meeting was the mutual agreement to revise the existing convention governing port use and goods transit. Both parties committed to appointing focal points to accelerate the revision process, aiming to make procedures more efficient and mutually beneficial.
The strategic use of the Chad-Benin corridor was another priority item on the agenda. Discussions underscored its significance as a vital route for Chadian cargo movement and trade. A consultation framework is also in the works, with plans for a formal collaboration protocol that would institutionalize cooperation and facilitate regular engagement between stakeholders.
Further deliberations addressed transit advantages offered to landlocked countries like Chad, with a focus on making port access more streamlined and cost-effective.
On the sidelines of the visit, the Chadian team held follow-up sessions with K-Polygone in Cotonou. Two annual activity reports covering 2024–2025 were reviewed and adopted, highlighting progress in joint operations and oversight.
This mission aligns with the broader vision of Chad’s President, Marshal Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, who has emphasized the strategic importance of opening new logistical corridors and improving connectivity to support national development and economic integration.
The initiative also reflects the commitment of Chad’s Ministry of Transport, Civil Aviation, and Meteorology to forge durable partnerships that can drive smoother, more resilient, and sustainable trade flows.
