The World Bank has reaffirmed its commitment to Chad’s long-term development by expressing full support for the country’s ambitious National Development Plan, Chad Connection 2030, during a high-level portfolio review meeting held this week in the capital.
The session was led by Chad’s Minister of State and Minister of Finance, Budget, Economy, Planning and International Cooperation, Tahir Hamid Nguilin.
He was joined by the Minister of Trade and Industry, Guibolo Fanga Mathieu, and Minister Delegate, Fatima Haram Acyl.
Representing the World Bank were Clara De Sousa, Director of Operations for West and Central Africa, and Farouk Mollah Banna, the institution’s Resident Representative in Chad.
The meeting focused on evaluating the performance of Chad’s ongoing projects with the World Bank, addressing challenges, and exploring new opportunities for collaboration. It also marked a significant milestone in aligning the Bank’s interventions with Chad’s national priorities.
The World Bank commended the government for its consistent alignment with the Chad Connection 2030 plan and confirmed new funding for projects related to water infrastructure, climate change adaptation, and private sector development.
Discussions placed strong emphasis on water management, identified as a crucial area for climate resilience and improving public well-being.
Chad currently boasts a disbursement rate of 26.8% for World Bank-funded projects — the second highest in the West and Central Africa region, just behind Burkina Faso. This performance was widely acknowledged and praised during the session.
In a strategic move to further bolster development partnerships, Minister Nguilin formally invited the World Bank to participate in the upcoming Chad Connection 2030 Financing Roundtable, scheduled for 10–11 November 2025 in Abu Dhabi.
The World Bank has since confirmed its attendance at the event, underscoring its ongoing commitment to supporting Chad’s national development agenda and fostering stronger economic and institutional cooperation.
