Chad’s Minister of Social Action, Solidarity, and Humanitarian Affairs, Ms. Zara Mahamat Issa, has pledged increased government backing for the Bethany Center in Massah, an orphanage that provides care and education for vulnerable and abandoned children.
The visit, conducted on Saturday, was aimed at assessing the center’s operational challenges and identifying ways the Ministry could bolster its assistance.
Accompanied by a delegation of officials, the Minister met with the center’s manager, Mr. Yagmy Dalgué Galley, who outlined several pressing issues, including a critical shortage of material and human resources.
“The objective of this visit was to assess the center’s needs and strengthen the Ministry’s support for child protection organizations,” the Ministry noted.
The Bethany Center, managed by the Betsaleel Association, is dedicated to offering shelter, education, and emotional support to orphans in a nurturing environment.
The Ministerial team toured the facilities and engaged directly with staff to better understand the daily living conditions of the children and the center’s most urgent needs.
In line with the government’s broader vision under the leadership of Marshal Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno—focused on solidarity and inclusive social protection—Minister Issa brought essential aid to the orphanage, including food and non-food supplies.
She also announced that more structured partnerships with humanitarian organizations would be developed to sustain the center’s operations and expand its services.
“These actions will aim not only to improve the reception and care of children in distress, but also to promote nutrition training for mothers and support families in their children’s education,” the Minister stated.
The visit reflects a renewed commitment by the Chadian government to strengthen safety nets for vulnerable children and enhance collaboration with civil society actors working on the frontlines of social protection.
