A new initiative to boost sustainable agriculture and nutrition was launched in Am-Timan, Salamat province, as part of the Project for Strengthening Innovation in Agro-pastoral Entrepreneurship for Youth and Women in Chad (RENFORT).
On October 5, 2025, the Aboudeïa branch of RENFORT organized an information and awareness campaign in the Amsinené district, aimed at promoting high-nutritional products and encouraging good dietary practices among local communities.
Doubé Baro, head of the RENFORT branch, explained that the project seeks to transform the agro-pastoral sector in rural areas by focusing on three key objectives: stimulating entrepreneurship among youth and women, advancing smart agriculture in response to climate challenges, and integrating information and communication technologies into agro-pastoral practices.
During the campaign, the team highlighted the nutritional benefits of local products such as fonio, spirulina, moringa, vegetables, legumes, and fish. Participants were educated on the importance of producing and consuming these nutrient-rich foods, alongside guidance on good eating practices, hygiene, sanitation, and food safety.
The campaign attracted a wide audience, including local dignitaries and community members, demonstrating strong engagement with the initiative’s goals. Attendees were able to participate in an interactive question-and-answer session and received reward kits as part of the outreach effort.
By promoting smart agricultural techniques and the consumption of locally available nutritious products, RENFORT aims to address food security challenges while empowering rural communities economically and socially. The initiative also underscores the critical role of youth and women in fostering innovation and sustainability in Chad’s agro-pastoral sector.
“The mission of RENFORT in Am-Timan is to encourage communities to embrace nutrition-rich local products while building resilience in agricultural practices,” Baro added, emphasizing the link between health, entrepreneurship, and sustainable development.
With climate change posing increasing risks to agriculture in the region, initiatives like this campaign are seen as vital in equipping rural populations with the knowledge, tools, and resources necessary to sustain both livelihoods and nutrition.
RENFORT’s campaign in Am-Timan is part of a broader effort to modernize Chad’s agro-pastoral sector, leveraging local resources and technology to create long-term socio-economic and health benefits for communities.
