Three months after the election of Gabonese President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, Central African Republic President Faustin-Archange Touadéra has extended a formal message of congratulations and renewed diplomatic commitment to his counterpart in Libreville.
On Wednesday, July 23, 2025, Sylvie Baïpo-Temon, the Central African Republic’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with Gabon’s Vice President Dr. Séraphin Moundounga in Libreville to deliver a personal letter from President Touadéra to President Oligui Nguema.
While the full contents of the letter were not disclosed, the message expressed support for Oligui’s leadership following his official election in April and emphasized a shared desire to strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two nations.
“We have a long, historic relationship, one that goes back to our colonial past, but also one deeply rooted in the bonds forged by the late President Omar Bongo, who consistently stood by the Central African people during difficult times,” said Minister Baïpo-Temon during the meeting.
She noted that the relationship between Bangui and Libreville remains “excellent” and highlighted Gabon’s role during the recent political transition.
As a gesture of regional trust, President Touadéra had been appointed by ECCAS (Economic Community of Central African States) to serve as facilitator during Gabon’s transitional period.
“It’s a very special relationship,” Baïpo-Temon continued. “The facilitation led by President Touadéra contributed to the success of the transition, which culminated in the confirmation and official inauguration of Oligui Nguema as President.”
Gabonese presidential sources described the encounter as further evidence of the strong diplomatic ties between the two nations and reaffirmed their mutual commitment to constructive dialogue and deeper cooperation across political, economic, and regional security spheres.
