Joseph Emmanuel Ateba, National Secretary for Communication of the Cameroon Renaissance Movement (MRC), has reaffirmed the party’s determination to bring change to the Cameroonian people through the candidacy of Maurice Kamto, despite mounting political challenges.
In a direct appeal to members of the Constitutional Council, Ateba urged them to recognize the significance of the upcoming presidential decision. “The MRC’s determination to offer the people the change they so desperately desire is unwavering, and its support for Maurice Kamto is unwavering.
The members of the Constitutional Council have a date with history and their consciences,” he said.
The comments come as Kamto’s presidential bid faces scrutiny, with the MRC positioning itself as a key challenger to the long-ruling establishment. Ateba, in a striking comparison, portrayed Kamto as a resilient fighter, likening him to the heroes of martial arts films.
“Maurice Kamto is like those actors in Chinese films who are hunted by gangster clans but in the end always end up winning after eliminating the bandit leader’s men one by one, ending with the leader himself,” Ateba declared.
The bold analogy underscores the MRC’s combative stance as it faces what it views as systemic resistance ahead of the 2025 election. Kamto’s camp continues to rally supporters despite institutional hurdles, with Ateba framing the campaign as a battle for democratic change.
As tensions grow around the Constitutional Council’s decisions, the MRC insists that Cameroonians are witnessing a decisive moment for the nation’s political future. Whether Kamto can overcome the mounting obstacles, as Ateba suggests, remains to be seen in the weeks ahead.
