Cameroon joins Saudi-led islamic military coalition in landmark anti-terrorism pact

Cameroon has officially joined the Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC), becoming the 43rd member of the Saudi-led alliance dedicated to combating global terrorism and promoting security across the Muslim world.
The announcement was made during a high-level ceremony at the coalition’s headquarters in Riyadh, where Cameroon’s national flag was raised alongside those of the 42 existing member states—an emblematic gesture signaling the country’s firm commitment to collective security efforts.
The Saudi Press Agency, reporting on Thursday, described Cameroon’s entry as a clear indication of the Central African nation’s alignment with global counter-terrorism strategies and regional stability initiatives.
Present at the ceremony were senior coalition officials, including Maj. Gen. Mohammed bin Saeed Al-Moghedi, the acting secretary-general of the IMCTC, and Iya Tidjani, Cameroon’s ambassador to Saudi Arabia.
Also in attendance were representatives of member nations, members of the Cameroonian delegation, and military envoys, underscoring the significance of the occasion.
Welcoming Cameroon into the fold, Maj. Gen. Al-Moghedi praised the move as a major milestone in multilateral cooperation.
“This is a significant step that strengthens joint efforts to combat terrorism and enhances coordination and integration in the intellectual, media, financial, and military fields,” he said.
The IMCTC, formed in 2015 and headquartered in Riyadh, aims to present a unified front against terrorism through collaborative defense measures, intelligence sharing, and strategic support among member states.
Cameroon’s participation is expected to bolster both its internal security apparatus and its role in international counter-terrorism diplomacy.
By joining the coalition, Cameroon reinforces its ongoing efforts to confront extremist threats, particularly in the Lake Chad Basin region, where militant groups have maintained a destabilizing presence for years.
The move also signals a growing partnership between Yaoundé and Riyadh on matters of security and development.
