In a decisive legal ruling, a Cameroonian court has once again barred Robert Kona from acting as president or founder of the Party for National Reconciliation (PCRN), confirming the legitimacy of Cabral Libii and the party’s current leadership elected in 2019.
The judgment, announced on July 22, 2025, by the Mfou Court of First Instance, marks the latest setback for Robert Kona, who has repeatedly challenged Cabral Libii’s presidency.
Kona sought to annul the resolutions of the PCRN’s May 23-24, 2025 congress in Nkolafamba, which reaffirmed Cabral Libii’s leadership and his candidacy for the upcoming presidential election on October 12, 2025.
After an expedited hearing, the judge dismissed Kona’s case, reiterating that he lacks the legal standing to act as PCRN president. The court ordered Kona to cease representing the party as either national president or founding father—a role that the party statutes do not recognize.
The ruling upholds the validity of the May 11, 2019 congress and its decisions, which installed Cabral Libii as PCRN’s national president, alongside Boubakari Massardine as secretary general and Ayichatou Inoua as treasurer. Importantly, the court refused to annul the recent May 2025 congress resolutions, ensuring Cabral Libii remains at the helm.
Robert Kona expressed surprise at the persistent legal defeats, questioning the basis for rulings against him despite Cabral Libii’s absence from the PCRN’s founding in 2023. However, the court emphasized that the procedures leading to Cabral Libii’s 2019 appointment were free from irregularities that could warrant annulment.
This judgment effectively consolidates Cabral Libii’s control over the PCRN, setting the stage for the party’s preparations ahead of the October presidential election, while dimming Robert Kona’s hopes of reclaiming leadership.
