The meeting, which took place on Monday, focused on expanding bilateral cooperation in a wide range of sectors including infrastructure, tourism, culture, and industrial development.
During the talks, Vice Governor Zhao outlined Shanxi Province’s vast economic and cultural potential.
Positioned as a key link between northern and southern China, Shanxi is regarded as a national hub for electric vehicles, renewable energy, and metallurgical industries. She also highlighted the province’s international trade platform, designed to boost export and import exchanges.
On the cultural front, Zhao emphasized Shanxi’s rich heritage as one of the cradles of Chinese civilization. With a population of 37 million, the province remains a major destination for domestic and international tourists, thanks to its historical landmarks and deep-rooted traditions.
The Chinese delegation proposed a series of initiatives to deepen cooperation with Cameroon. These include mutually beneficial partnerships in human capital, natural resource development, and technology transfer, as well as collaboration in cultural and tourism exchanges, and support for Cameroon’s infrastructure goals.
In his remarks, Minister Mbarga Atangana welcomed the progress in relations between Cameroon and China, especially the tangible contributions of Shanxi-based firms.
He cited notable achievements such as the Yaoundé Sports Complex, the Douala Gyneco-Obstetric Hospital, and renovations to the Yaoundé Omnisport Stadium and Ministerial Building No.1—projects all carried out by Shanxi Construction Group.
The Minister expressed Cameroon’s appreciation for China’s support in organizing the upcoming 14th WTO Ministerial Conference, set to be held in Yaoundé from 26 to 29 March 2026. He specifically praised the Chinese-funded renovation of the Palais des Congrès, which will host the event.
Highlighting Cameroon’s investment-friendly environment, Mbarga Atangana invited Shanxi companies to explore opportunities in cocoa, timber, cotton, and coffee processing, as well as infrastructure development. He noted that Cameroon enjoys duty-free access to a market of over two billion consumers through its various trade agreements.
The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment from both parties to work closely towards implementing the proposed cooperation projects.
