
The inaugural final of the UFR LSH Director’s Cup at Norbert Zongo University (UNZ) unfolded with passion, energy, and camaraderie on Saturday, June 28, 2025, delivering a vibrant blend of sport and academic celebration that left the crowd delighted.
Held on the grounds of the Training and Research Unit in Letters and Human Sciences (UFR LSH), the event attracted a spirited audience that filled the venue with cheer and anticipation.
From start to finish, the day embodied the university’s mission to foster unity through extracurricular excellence.
The day began at 2:00 p.m. with an entertaining and symbolic gala match featuring professors and students. This friendly encounter brought laughter and joy to the field, setting a lively tone for the afternoon’s main event.
The highlight of the occasion followed at 3:30 p.m. as the Geography and Psychology departments took to the field for a thrilling final match. Both teams displayed remarkable preparation, showcasing skill, sportsmanship, and teamwork in a contest that captivated the crowd and underscored the athletic spirit thriving within UNZ.
The match was attended by several notable figures, including Professor Issa Abdou Moumoula, former president of UNZ, and Professor Moussa Bougouma
Their presence emphasized the broader academic and institutional support for the initiative.
At the close of the match, Dr. Ernest Bassané, Director of UFR LSH and architect of the tournament, expressed his satisfaction.
“I’m proud of how this cup has united our students and faculty, promoting both sporting values and academic cohesion,” he said.
The event was held under the high patronage of Professor Wendkouni Haoua Eugénie Maïga, President of Norbert Zongo University, with sponsorship from Pèma Neya, Project Manager of the Presidency of Faso for the Centre-West, and co-sponsorship by Adama Ouedraogo, President of the AAPDRD.
With its successful debut, the UFR LSH Director’s Cup now appears poised to become a cherished annual tradition at UNZ, weaving together sportsmanship, scholarship, and solidarity.
