The PLURIELLES project convened a critical review session with the Regional Monitoring Committee (CSR) in Banfora to assess the progress of the Annual Work Plan 4 (PTA4) and to chart a course toward meeting its fifth-year objectives.
This evaluation marks a pivotal moment for a project dedicated to advancing sexual and reproductive health and rights across West Africa.
Funded by Global Affairs Canada, the PLURIELLES initiative is a collaborative effort led by a consortium including Santé Monde, Lawyers Without Borders Canada, and the International Development Cooperation Corporation.
Over five years, the project has been committed to bolstering health rights, with a strong focus on women and adolescent girls who often face vulnerability in the regions of Benin, Burkina Faso’s Tannounyan area, and Mali.
The Project Director outlined ambitious goals, highlighting plans to support 50 women’s cooperatives by providing essential inputs and production equipment. Equally significant are infrastructure developments, including the construction of 22 health centers, primarily maternity wards and clinics.
Furthermore, three modern biomedical waste incinerators are to be installed at the Banfora Regional Hospital (CHR), the Banfora Integrated Medical Center (CMI), and the Sindou Medical Center with Surgical Unit (CMA), ensuring improved health safety standards.
A key component of PLURIELLES’ work lies in nurturing the next generation of health and legal professionals.
The project has prioritized training young people, particularly recruiting freshly qualified lawyers for professional development.
In the fourth year alone, 37 young individuals received training, with 15 securing six-month internships designed to enhance their employability. Many of these interns have already transitioned into their first jobs, reflecting the project’s success in fostering professional integration.
Addressing regional authorities and partners, the Project Director called for enhanced collaboration to amplify the project’s impact. “Strengthening our partnership is essential to improve the results we deliver,” he stated.
Toussaint Meda, Secretary General of the Tannounyan Region and representative of the Governor, commended PLURIELLES’ dedicated support for women and youth. He reiterated the regional government’s firm commitment to backing the project, affirming, “We are determined to ensure its successful intervention in the region.”
This concerted effort underscores Burkina Faso’s growing dedication to improving sexual and reproductive health rights through integrated community development and capacity building.
