The National Authority for Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety (ARSN) has been conducting a level 2 training course in Ouagadougou aimed at enhancing the expertise of professionals skilled in radiation protection (PCR) across sectors including mining, public works, construction, and industry with approximately fifty participants benefiting from this programme under the chairmanship of Professor Martial Zoungrana, National Director of ARSN
Professor Zoungrana emphasised that a crucial element of radiation protection lies in the prevention of radioactive risks explaining that the training builds upon operational competencies provided at level 1 and expands to cover nuclear safety at level 2 due to the gravity of security concerns which necessitate comprehensive attention to all facets of nuclear safety to ensure participants acquire the necessary skills to effectively monitor the safety of radioactive sources within their respective organisations
The course reflects ARSN’s commitment to strengthening national capacity in radiation safety management as nuclear technologies become increasingly integrated within key industries and infrastructure projects, underscoring the importance of equipping stakeholders with up-to-date knowledge and practical skills that safeguard workers, communities, and the environment from radiation hazards
By fostering such targeted training initiatives, Burkina Faso is advancing its preparedness in nuclear safety protocols while promoting a culture of responsibility among professionals who operate in environments where radioactive materials are present, thereby contributing to both national development and adherence to international safety standards
