Local leaders in the commune of Koubri have set out a shared vision for sustainable development as part of their future integration into the Greater Ouaga urban area.
The initiative took shape during a participatory workshop held on Friday, 10 October, bringing together around twenty local stakeholders.
The session, chaired by Sibiri Compaoré, the First Vice-President of the Special Delegation, aimed to identify Koubri’s strengths, weaknesses, and prospects within the framework of the forthcoming intercommunal cooperation.
Organised under the study led by G2 Conception, represented by Alexandre Soubeiga, the event focused on shaping a common roadmap for Koubri’s urban development strategy (CDS) and its Climate Air Energy Plan (PCAE).
Soubeiga commended the participants’ strong engagement and urged them to take an active role in designing a collective and inclusive vision for the town’s growth.
Discussions highlighted several pressing challenges.
Environmentally, participants pointed to widespread deforestation, the deterioration of dams, and the uncontrolled extraction of sand and gravel.
Socially and culturally, they identified land disputes, youth delinquency, unemployment, a lack of cultural initiatives, and the growing issue of integrating internally displaced persons.
On the economic and infrastructural front, the absence of purchasing centres, the high cost of agricultural inputs, and the shortage of schools, sports facilities, and transport infrastructure were major concerns.
Participants also noted governance issues, including the lack of female representation in the Special Delegation and the absence of clearly defined municipal boundaries.
In relation to the PCAE, participants expressed alarm over the effects of climate change — rising temperatures, violent winds, and irregular rainfall patterns — and called for urgent local responses. Proposed measures included establishing a green belt, expanding access to clean drinking water through intercommunal projects, and improving sustainable natural resource management.
By 2050, participants envisioned Koubri as an urbanised, prosperous, and resilient commune, fully integrated into the Greater Ouaga region.
The workshop marked a key milestone in building a collaborative and sustainable intercommunal framework based on dialogue, inclusivity, and citizen participation.
