Burkina Faso launches nationwide civic conferences to revive patriotism and social cohesion

In a bold effort to rekindle national unity and strengthen civic responsibility, Burkina Faso has launched a series of public conferences aimed at promoting citizenship, patriotism, peace, and social cohesion.
The initiative was officially unveiled on Thursday, July 24, in Ouagadougou, under the leadership of Captain Anderson Médah, Chief of Staff at the Presidency.
The government plans to roll out these conferences across all regions, seeking to reinforce the core values that have historically bound the nation together—especially in times of crisis.
Speaking on behalf of President Ibrahim Traoré, Minister of Justice and Human Rights, Rodrigue Bayala, emphasized the urgency of the campaign.
“For a Burkina Faso of peace, security, and cohesion, we must overcome many challenges, including building responsible citizenship and strengthening our patriotic commitment to the motherland,” said Bayala.
The conferences are organized by the National Office for Major Projects through the Presidential Initiative for Community Development (IPDC), in partnership with the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights.
Rooted in the ideals of the Popular Progressive Revolution (RPP), the effort seeks to instill civic values not just through policy, but through education and active engagement at all levels of society.
Bayala stressed that promoting values is a national mission. “We must ensure that the flame of patriotism continues to burn in every Burkinabè, especially among our youth,” he declared.
“They must be equipped not only with knowledge and skills but also with the moral strength to embody our cardinal values in all circumstances.”
Maurice Konaté, President of the Special Delegation of Ouagadougou, expressed gratitude to President Traoré for initiating reforms that span the social, political, economic, and cultural spheres since the rise of the MPSR2.
In the Kadiogo region, the conferences will focus on three major themes: “Civics and Citizenship,” “Patriotism and Citizen Participation,” and “The Culture of Peace and Social Cohesion.”
This initiative marks a renewed national commitment to fostering unity, dignity, and pride in the face of evolving global and domestic challenges.
